What styles of ready-to-assemble cabinets can you buy at Stone & Cabinet Outlet?

With so many different styles and finishes to choose from, picking the right cabinetry for building your dream kitchen or bathroom vanity can be a nerve-racking task.

At Stone & Cabinet Outlet, we want to make your decision easier by giving you a quick overview of the types of ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinetry we sell, their build quality, and colors and finishes.

Let's jump in!

What is ready-to-assemble cabinetry?

Most of the cabinets we sell at Stone & Cabinet Outlet are RTA cabinets. This means we sell each cabinet flat-packed in a cardboard box, including all the wood pieces, trim, hardware, and accessories needed to assemble the cabinet.

We also offer cabinet assembly for a flat fee of $15 per cabinet, and we have professional crews who can install them in your space for a flat fee of $90 per cabinet. For installation, there are additional labor charges, such as installing trim and filler pieces, as well as upstairs handling fees, and so on.

Our RTA cabinets can also be modified to fit your specifications, including cutting them to a custom depth, cutting down the toe-kick, or building modified versions of our appliance cabinets.

We are happy to try to adapt our cabinets to your specifications. However, make sure to check with us first to confirm with our cabinet team if we can meet your needs.

Let's move on to the cabinet styles we sell at SCO.

Shaker Cabinetry

Shaker cabinetry is a timeless style, with a flat center panel and square raised edges around the outside, that's been used in homes since the 18th century.

Here's a closeup of the shaker style door on our toffee shaker birch cabinets:

We like shaker cabinetry because of its clean, minimalist appearance that fits well in any space. When paired with a solid cabinet frame material, like birch or oak hardwood, and high-quality paints and stains, shaker cabinetry can help give your home a more upscale vibe.

Shaker cabinetry is also like the "chameleon of the cabinet world" due to its ability to match nearly every style of cabinet hardware, flooring, paint, and interior decor. It's a trend-proof style that will look good in your space for years to come.

Our customers also like shaker cabinetry because it's easy to clean and maintain. Their relatively flat panel style has minimal grooves and creases that trap dirt and grime, and they can be cleaned with a quick wipe-down using a damp rag.

If you're looking for a simple, no-frills premium cabinetry experience, shaker style is the way to go.

Bevel Edge Cabinetry

Bevel edge cabintery is a close cousin to shaker cabinetry. But instead of a 90° angle between the recessed panel and the raised sides of the cabinet, there is a slight slant of around 30-45° degrees, which is called a "bevel."

Here's a close-up of the bevel on our gray bevel edge birch cabinets:

This bevel adds more three-dimensional depth to you cabinetry while maintining a simplistic and refined look. And, like its shaker counterparts, bevel edge cabinetry fits seemlessly with almost any space, color of building materials, or design, and will never go out of style.

There's a reason our gray bevel edge birch hardwood cabinets are a top selller year after year. Just have a look at the results when they're paired with our quality quarts stone and an excellent kitchen design:

Finally, like shaker cabinetry, bevel edge cabinetry is also known for being quite easy to clean and maintain.

Raised Panel Cabinetry

Raised panel cabinets are the kings of adding depth to your space.

Instead of a having a recessed panel like shaker or bevel edge cabinets, the center panel is "raised" to the same level as the sides of the door, with gently sloping bevels between the center panel and sides.

Here's what it looks like on our charcoal gray raised panel birch cabinets.

The raised panel style is an elegant, modern look that requires more advanced carpentry, making it a bit more expensive than our shaker or bevel edge cabinets, but the high-end vibe they add to your space is worth the modest price increase.

It's also worth noting that raised panel cabinets can require more cleaning and maintenance, due to having more grooves/bevels for trapping dirt, and more surface area on the door that can be accidentally bumped, smudged or scratched.

But again, these are minor inconvenieces compared to how wonderful these cabinets will look in your bathroom or kitchen.

Cabinet Materials, Carpentry, Finishes, and Stains

While choosing the right style of cabinetry goes a long way towards building a kitchen or bathroom you'll love, good looks mean diddly if your cabinets are built poorly, made from low-grade materials, or finished with bad paint and stains.

We'll write a separate article on cabinet build quality, but for now SCO recommends making sure you only consider cabinetry with door and frames made from hardwood like birch or oak, and plywood box construction for appearance, quality, and longevity.

You can also check with your cabinet maker and ask them to explain their carpentry process. For example, at Stone & Cabinet Outlet, we use tongue-and-groove dado jointery for our cabinet boxes, and dovetail joints for our drawers, making them incredibly strong and sturdy.

You should also consider the type of paint or stain used for your cabinets. At SCO, we only use professional-grade paints and stains from Sherwin Williams, ensuring our cabinets can withstand everday wear-and-tear, scratches, and damage, with minimal repainting and long-term maintenance.

Choosing cabinets with low-quality paint and stains will lead to more time and money lost due to future cabinet maintenance, plus a run-down, shabby-looking kitchen or bathroom. Bad paints and stains can also be harmful to your health, due to containing noxious chemicals like VOCs.

Budget more now for buying nice hardwood cabinets made with quality carpentry and finished with good paint and stains. You'll be glad you did!
